EXPECTATIONS FOR PARENTS AND SPECTATORS

Be timely
  • Games: Please arrive early; it is difficult when the coach does not know how many players he or she will have at game time.
  • Practices: If you do not stay at the field during practice, please pick up your child on time. Coaches volunteer their time to coach your child and cannot be responsible for babysitting your child after practice is over.
Know where to sit
  • On game day, parents are required to sit on the opposite side of the field as the team. This helps the coaches keep track of the players. If your child is uncomfortable with this, sit with him on the team side and then encourage the transition. Please refer to the Field Map to see which side of the field is assigned to spectators.
  • For U6 teams, the coach will be on the field while the team is playing. If there is not an assistant coach, please consider volunteering to help with the players on the sideline.
  • Do not sit near the goals, this is distracting to the players and dangerous to you.
Be a supportive fan
  • Encourage your child and their teammates to do their best regardless of the score.
  • Leave the coaching to the coach; young players get confused and frustrated if everyone is yelling different things at the same time.
  • The goal of MASC is to create passion for the game, while building character on and off the field. MASC helps youth learn the rules of the game and form life-long habits of being active. The club's board, coaches, referees, parents and players are known for being genuine, respectful and approachable. MASC values inclusivity, integrity, unity and respect and wee expect our players, coaches and parents to share and show those values.
Leave pets at home
  • For safety and sanitary reasons, pets are not allowed at the MASC soccer complex.
Find a place to park
  • If the paved parking lot is full, there is gravel parking on the East and South side of the fields.
  • Our Fields and Facilities Directors work hard to maintain our grounds so please DO NOT park on the grass at any time.
Keep it clean
  • Place all debris in the trash cans available throughout the complex.
  • the MASC complex is a non-smoking facility.

QUESTIONS

If you have additional questions about your team, MASC, or Iowa Soccer, board members are always available to answer your questions, take suggestions or give you advice.

CLUB PARTICIPATION

MASC is operated by volunteers. Parents of the players assist the club in several ways. Many volunteer regularly as coaches, team parents and board members. Others volunteer to staff the concession stand. Please do your part in helping the club!

UNCLEAR RULES

The rules of soccer vary with age; MASC referees are trained and certified in accordance with the applicable rules. Please be courteous and respectful if you do not understand a call. Age-specific guidelines can be found on our resources page.

  • The game of soccer is designed to keep the game moving. In some cases, it may appear that a player is pushed or tripped. Soccer rules state that if "the team retains possession of the ball" and there is no "advantage", play may not be stopped.
  • The ball is in play until it entirely crosses the touchline (sideline) or goal line or until the referee stops play by blowing the whistle. A goal is scored only if the entire ball has crossed the goal line.
  • If you want to understand more about the rules of soccer, ask about becoming a certified referee.
